Early in the summer of 2016 the Susquehanna Men's Basketball Coach, Frank Marcinek, was diagnosed with throat cancer. When he broke the news to the team, no one really knew what the situation was or what we could do to help. Coach assured us he was going to be okay, and was going to fight this terrible disease and keep pushing forward. As a team, we knew what he was going through was physically and mentally draining. We knew that for us to do our part in helping Coach fight this disease was to put in twice the work and prepare harder than we had in previous years.
Even though you knew what Coach was going through was painful and tiring, he didn't show one bit that he was going through such a tough time. When he was around the team he seemed like his normal self and didn't show us if he was ever struggling. This was motivation for our squad to make no excuses. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Coach was cleared of cancer early into our season.
This journey started with Coach's diagnosis, and ended with a 24-6 record and an appearance to the Sweet Sixteen. The Susquehanna Men's Basketball team showed incredible toughness as individuals and a family from the top of our coaching staff down to the last guy.
